Educational Team

Our experienced team of teachers are also trained wellbeing professionals. They can support students and families experiencing "school can't", as well as consulting on school inclusion, school accommodations and adjustment supports. Educational Assessments, including assessing for learning disability, can also be completed at The Waratah Centre. Tutoring across the areas of Literacy, Numeracy and general school tutoring is also available upon request.

Occupational Therapy

Our Occupational Therapist can provide support with fine and gross motor skills, emotional awareness and regulation, sensory processing, self-care, school readiness and increasing independence with activities of daily living.

Our Occupational Therapist can complete assessments and enjoys working with people of all ages and stages.

Disability Support

Our Support Workers can help you build confidence and independence with cooking, meal preparation, play, community access, and supporting routines. We tailor experiences so that participants are empowered and feel safe. Packages can include larger excursions to places of interest, or working on specific tasks that are tricky. The beauty of the Disability Support role is that we are able to 'make practical' the aspects clients work on in the therapy room - out in the real world!

Our Team can provide supports in Yarram, Foster, and other areas upon request.

Generalist Counselling

Our Counsellors support people of all ages to work toward greater wellbeing through 1:1 sessions. Areas of support include peri/postnatal support, alcohol and other drug counselling, and trauma recovery.

Massage Therapy

Just as a computer needs regular defragging to reorganise bits of data, massage works by calming the many nerve endings throughout the body to give people a greater sense of physical ease, and contribute to a more positive outlook on life. Elizabeth supports a whole body and mind approach, and brings together a powerful collection of both physical and emotional skills.

Art Groups at TWC

Designed by our Occupational Therapist and Art Therapist (student), our 2025 weekly Art Groups will combine thoughtful art making, with social connection opportunities.

These classes will be perfect for young people who want to explore art in a safe and supported group.

Adult classes are also an option if interest is sufficient.

Social Groups in 2025

In 2025, The Waratah Centre aims to curate our Neurodivergent Connection Group. Specifically for adolescents wanting to meet other ND folk, the group will be facilitated by our OT, Psychologists and Disability Support Team.

Activities will be planned as part of the group and may include centre-based afternoons or more extended programs in the community.

Acknowledgement of Country

The Waratah Centre acknowledges that the lands and waterways in which we play, work and dream are the spaces of the Bunurong and Gunaikurnai Peoples, the traditional owners for always and millenia. We pay our respects to elders past, present and emerging.

Cultural Safety Statement

The Waratah Centre aims to provide safe inclusive care to all members of our society. We acknowledge that some cultures and identities are more vulnerable than others, and that in publicly asserting our allyship we hope to continue to address our privledge, minimise potential micro-aggressions and provide a space of trust and safety.

Neurodiversity Affirming Practice

The Waratah Centre is a proudly Neurodiversity Affirming Practice. We acknowledge that all brains and bodies work, feel, communicate and make meaning in different ways, and that no one way is the 'right' way. We purposefully curate spaces to support people's differences and offer a range of tools and strategies to ensure the diversity of needs are cared for.

The Waratah (Telopea Speciosissima) flowers once each year, unfurling their rich colours from the depths of Winter and into early Spring.
Symbolically the Waratah represents 'a rising out of Winter,' 'a reaching toward the Sun', and we see it as symbolic of hope and growth.
